Obituary for John A. Thurber

John A. Thurber, a lifelong resident of Birmingham, died peacefully, March 19, 2012, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was 72 years old. John was born November 9, 1939, in Detroit, to Mary Anne (nee D�Agostino) and John Levington Thurber.

John graduated from Birmingham High School (Seaholm) in 1957 and the University of Michigan in 1962. He went on to receive his JD from U of M Law School in 1965. Professionally, John became a partner with Miller, Canfield, Paddock, and Stone, and was a member of the Michigan, Ohio, and U.S. Supreme Court Bar Associations. John was also a past president of the Birmingham Village Players and a past member of the Birmingham Community House and Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy Board of Directors. Further, he was a dedicated member of the Victor�s Club and the Senior Men�s Club of Birmingham. An avid U of M football fan throughout his life, John was a season ticket holder for 37 years. He also enjoyed antique cars and gardening. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, John Thurber was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Barbara, and children, John (Jenny) Thurber and Sarah (Craig) Lindsay. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katharine and Andrew Lindsay and siblings, Mary Alice Locicero, Frances (Roy) Talmadge, and Jeanne (Robert) Murray.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Friday 3-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon Street, Birmingham, Saturday 12 noon. Friends may visit at church beginning at 11:30am.

Interment will take place privately in Greenwood Cemetery, Birmingham.
