Obituary for Calvin Walter Landmesser

Cal was given life by his Creator and was born to his parents, the late Ottillie and Archibald Landmesser on June 9, 1926. He received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a member of God’s family. On May 25, 1941, he publically confessed his faith through the rite of Confirmation.

He received the gift of his beloved companion of 66 years in his spouse, Delores Wagner on November 14, 1953. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Dawn Heins (the late Eric), Gary Landmesser (Nirian), DiAnn Hoke, and Amy Bedard (Dan).

Calvin worked as a carpenter and was self-employed for many years before his retirement. Cal and Dee’s home is filled with furniture that he was given the talent to make. At one point or another, his children and grandchildren were able to receive pointers on how to “make things the right way and to measure correctly!”

He lived his life in a way that exemplified his love for his Lord and Savior. He served the congregations of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak, Michigan, and Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Birmingham, Michigan, as recording secretary, board of education member, Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Senior Choir. Cal and Dee made sure that their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren knew and understood that the earthly paths they traveled were leading to their eternal home in heaven.

Cal is survived by his wife Dee, his children, grandchildren: Chad, Shane, Shay, Cali, Jake, Amanda, Catelyn, Mark, David, Michael, and Sarah. The newest loves of his life have been his great grandchildren: Kayla, Austen, Mason, Vanyssa, Easton, Calvin, Zoey, Audrey, Dominic, Spencer, Avery, and Ericsen.

On April 18, 2019, God blessed his servant, Calvin, with a holy death and took him home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection.

A Funeral Service will be held at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2225 E. 14 Mile Rd., Birmingham, Wednesday, April 24th at 11am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10am.

Memorials appreciated to Our Shepherd Lutheran School, 1658 E Lincoln St, Birmingham, MI 48009.
