Obituary for June L. Hanson

June L. Hanson of Birmingham, Michigan died September 14, 2021. She was 82 years old. June was born on August 17, 1939 in Detroit to parents, Jennie and Ray Wolak.

June always had a passion for music and baton twirling. She was a competitive baton twirler and coached for Seaholm and Groves High School. It was only fitting that she met and married Eugene Hanson, a musician and band teacher. The two married on April 23, 1960 and enjoyed many years of love, laughter, and music together until his death in 2009.

June worked as a payroll administrator for many years for Walsh College. She didn’t retire until she was 74 years old. She was a proud member of Christ, Our Light! Catholic Church in Troy. She was very involved in different church activities and enjoyed assisting as a Eucharistic Minister.

June was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and loved going to the games. More than anything, however, June loved spending time with her family. Especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed their zoo trips together and was deeply loved by them. June was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be sorely missed.

June is survived by her loving daughters, Ellen (Kevin) Shaw and Carol Hanson. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Owen, Emily, and Allison Shaw, her dear siblings, Jack (Mary) Wolak and Susan Simon, and several nieces and nephews. June is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene.

A memorial gathering will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 1368 N. Crooks Road, Clawson, Michigan 48017 on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 4-8pm.
