Obituary for Allen C. Kroening

Allen Carl Kroening went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.

Allen was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 2, 1930. He attended St. John Lutheran Day School and graduated from Mackenzie High School.

Following high school, Allen enlisted in the Army and served in a MASH unit in Korea. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he worked in refrigeration and as a crane operator until his retirement in 1992.

Allen married Joyce Schroeder in 1953, and became a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He spent many hours in volunteer service performing plumbing, electrical work, and many other handy-man jobs He was a “jack of all trades” and enjoyed being able to use his talents to help his church.

In his spare time, Allen loved being on the water boating or fishing. He owned a cottage in Port Austin and spent many enjoyable hours at his summer place.

In 1997, Joyce passed away. Allen continued to volunteer at Bethany Lutheran Church. Through his many hours of service there, he became familiar with fellow volunteer and church member Janet Gramzow. They began to spend time together, and God lit a flame in each of their hearts for the other. They were married in 1998.

In 2015 Janet and Allen moved from their home in St. Clair Shores to a condo in Sterling Heights. At that time they changed church membership to Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Birmingham. Because of failing health he was unable to attend church in recent years, but enjoyed listening to the services on CD's or via live-streaming. Allen was a very devout Christian man who frequently displayed his faith by serving God and his neighbor.

Allen leaves behind his devoted wife, Janet (Gramzow) Kroening, daughter Nancy Fisher, and sisters Marilyn Reppert and Donna Ely, along with many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
