Margaret Elizabeth Devitt (nee Gaffkay) died peacefully on June 11, 2020 at the age of 26 (more on this later). She is survived by her loving husband and swim buddy Thomas Devitt, her hockey loving boys Mark (Felicia) and Kevin, her golf loving daughter Karen (Greg) and her champagne loving daughter Julie (Philip).
Margaret was predeceased by her brother John and survived by her sister and best friend Dorothy (Aunt Dodo). She was the proud grandmother to Connor, Paige, Penn, Hailey, and Keegan.
Margaret worked in retail where she was a top producer with a keen eye for fashion. She loved to spend time in her garden and never met a magazine she could bear to part with. She knew all the words to all of the movies on Turner Movie Classics. She was a wicked solitaire player (who may have gotten creative with the rules a time or two) and liked to bark ‘card down’ when one of those suckers slipped off the table.
Margaret had a great laugh and lovable gullibility that was often exploited by her sons until she would ‘get stern’ and call them by their full names. According to her grandson, she was a very ‘good cooker’. Margaret enjoyed the simple things in life -- family, food, flowers, a good laugh, the sun and the occasional dry martini. Later in life, Wurthers and muffins were her go-tos.
Born in 1928, Margaret was of course 91 when she died but in her final days she insisted she was 26 and who was going to argue with her. We loved her and will miss her.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road, Clawson, Michigan 48017 on Sunday, June 14, 2020, from 1-5pm.
