Obituary for William P. Froling

William P. Froling, a resident of Bloomfield Hills since 1963, died June 2, 2020. He was 94 years old. William was born on November 28, 1925 in Detroit to Bridget (nee Grace) and John Froling.

Formerly of Detroit, William was a graduate of Visitation High School. He then served in the Navy during World War II, seeing much action in the Pacific Theatre. He was a chief petty officer, 1st class, serving on a large landing craft (LSM) as its radio operator. William then graduated with a degree in business and commerce in 1950 from the University of Detroit. He was a lifelong active supporter of U of D’s football and basketball programs.

William started while in college, and then after college, selling fruitcakes. He started and owned a specialty advertising business and then moved on to real estate development. He built and owned Froling Lanes for over 20 years and bowled up until his 90th birthday. William was a member of the Detroit Athletic Club for 65 years and extremely active in its bowling program.

William is survived by his children, William J. (Marla) Froling, Bradley (Chrissy) Froling, and Carole Froling. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Blake, Grant, Derek, Drew, Jack, and Lily Froling. William is preceded in death by his wife of over 71 years, Marilyn, his son, Daniel W. (Janet) Froling, and his daughter, Joan Froling.

Private services have been held.
