Obituary for William J. Carr

William J. Carr died peacefully August 30, 2011, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was 68 years old. Bill was born May 27, 1943, in Detroit, to Mary Agnes (nee Schultz) and Percy Carr. He was the second of what would be six children.

He spent his early childhood in Detroit where he attended Goodale Elementary School, and graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in Detroit and went on to Wayne State University.

In 1987 he met the love of his life, Anita and in 2005 they were married. They spent 24 wonderful years together going on vacations with their children and occasionally by themselves. He had two sons by a previous marriage, Danny and Billy.

Bill had a heart of gold, for 26 years he organized and sponsored, with the help of UAW Local 160 and their Retirees, a Spaghetti Dinner Fund Raiser for the Arc Detroit. The Arc Detroit is an organization for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. All proceeds from the fundraiser went towards the Special Olympics program. Bill served as President of the Arc Detroit until his death.

It wasnt always work and no play for Bill, he l-o-v-e-d picking winning horses and sports teams; occasionally he would get a winning hand in a game of cards, (smile) that was his livelihood for many years.

Bill (Papa Bill as he was affectionately called) leaves to cherish his sweet memories: his wife, Anita whom he simply adored; two sons, Billy and Danny Carr; three stepsons, Jerry (Iretha), James (Tiffany), Pharoah (LaDonna) Blewett; five grandchildren, Brittany, Jamez, Pharoah, Jarod, Nevaeha and Jayla (soon to be born): two sisters, Pat (the late Don) Dopierala and Dawn (Paul) Mecklenborg; three brothers, Danny (Diane) Terry (Maureen) and Jim Carr and host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Tuesday 2-8pm. Funeral Wednesday 11am at Lynch & Sons.

Burial in Highland Cemetery, Highland.
