Obituary for Walter T. Russell

Walter T. Russell, known affectionately as Grandpa Wally, died peacefully on May 6, 2019 at Cambridge North Nursing Home in Clawson, Michigan. He was 97 years old. Walter was born on March 2, 1922, in Hamtramck, Michigan to parents, Natalie (nee Tofil) and Stanley Gosiewski.

A humble Navy Veteran who proudly served his country during WWII, Walter went on to work as a Tool & Die Maker for the automotive industry. He was a crafty builder who gave extra attention to the details. Eventually he married the love of his life, Maud, and the two started a family together.

Walter was a family man and had a way to make every grandchild feel special. He was big hearted and always made sure you were fed. He had a friendly smile and liked to send greeting cards with personalized fancy lettering. He appreciated dogs and enjoyed following the stock market. He loved puzzles and games and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He will be remembered for being generous with his time, his skills at fixing things, and the pride he took in caring for his family.

Walter is survived by his children, David (Rita) Beavers, Maryann (Thomas) Green, Linda (Jim) Finch, and Daniel (Ruth Ann) Beavers. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren (Browning, Cook, Finch, Garnett, and Smolen Families).

A Funeral will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 9:30am. Friends may visit Thursday, May 9th, 2019 from 3-8pm. Interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
