Obituary for Virginia Halley

Virginia Halley of Farmington Hills died July 21, 2020. She was 79 years old. Virginia was born November 16, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to Roman Halley and Margaret (nee Abram) Halley. Sometime in the late 1940’s she and her parents moved to Detroit.

Virginia was an excellent student and enjoyed learning. While in school at Concordia Lutheran Grade School she won numerus spelling bees and even appeared on a local television show called Quizdown. She was a proud graduate of Lutheran High East.

Virginia made good use of her time learning and succeeding in the world of banking. She began as a stenographer in September of 1961. At the time of her retirement in December of 1995 she had achieved the impressive position and title of Department Head of Bank Operations.

Thirty-three years after her high school graduation Virginia continued to seek out learning and enrolled in Wayne State University Weekend College Program. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree, Magnum Cum Laude in Interdisciplinary Studies. Continuing her thirst for knowledge earned a Master’s Degree of Interdisciplinary Studies and Graduate Certificate in Gerontology. Her Thesis: Embracing Age: Late Life Issues and Opportunities.

Living her Faith and sharing her knowledge gave her the greatest pleasure. Virginia is survived by many loving friends and will be deeply missed.

A Funeral Service will be held at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Birmingham on Tuesday, July 28th at 11am. Friends may visit beginning at 10am. Burial will be in Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia.
