Obituary for Vincent Dixie Walker

Vincent �Dixie� Walker of Royal Oak, died December 13, 2010, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was 88 years old. Mr. Walker was born December 27, 1921, in Brooklyn, New York, to Florence (ne McCabe) and George Walker. He proudly served as a Captain in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII as a Glider Pilot.

Mr. Walker graduated from U of D in 1946 with a Bachelors Degree and married Margaret Grimmer on April 27, 1946. He was an Advertising Executive for the Chicago Tribune until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Walker was a member of the National Shrine of the Little Flower and a past member of the Elks Lodge and the Detroit Athletic Club. He enjoyed golf, body surfing, and traveling but especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, he was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Mr. Walker is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy and sons, David Kevin (Cristi) Walker and Jeffrey (Sharon) Walker. He is also survived by his grandsons, Tom and Matt and brother, George Walker. Mr. Walker is preceded in death by his son, Paul Walker.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Wednesday 3-8pm with prayers at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the National Shrine of the Little Flower, Woodward and 12 Mile Rd., Royal Oak, Thursday 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am. Burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
