Obituary for Valeria Banda

Valeria Banda passed away in the early hours of November 28, 2012. She had a full and blessed life. Valeria was a truly remarkable woman. She experienced each day with purpose, compassion, and strength. Those who had the good fortune to know her will talk about her warmth, great sense of humor, feistiness, and genuine concern for the well being of others.

The oldest of five children, born to Helen (nee Mink) and Louis Martuneac, she grew up in Hamtramck, Michigan, and graduated from Pershing High School. She married her one true love, Eros Banda, June 8, 1946. They moved to Northwest Detroit and had three children.

She was employed by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance for over 25 years.

Valeria was an accomplished pianist and an outstanding cook. She loved to knit and crochet in her spare time. In recent years she lived in a senior independent setting where she made many new friends and participated in several activities.

She will be forever missed, forever loved!

Valeria is survived by her daughters, Dianne (Larry) Turner and Donna (Jim) Turner, and grandchildren, Joanna (Noli) Hernandez, Jeffrey Turner, Jonathan (Bianca) Turner, Julie Turner, Lisa (Eric) Rotenheber, and Michael Turner. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Jacob Hernandez, Briana and Nathan Turner, and Hunter and Brody Rotenheber, her sisters, Helen (Jim) Meier, Dorothy (Al) Faydenko, and Jane (Roy) Gonzales, and several nieces and nephews. Valeria is preceded in death by her husband, Eros Banda, son, Michael Banda, and brother, George Martuneac.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Friday 3-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anastasia Church, 4571 John R, Troy, Saturday 9:30am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9am. Burial will take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
