Obituary for Valentine Gerald Frizzo

Valentine “Val” Gerald Frizzo, of Royal Oak, Michigan died peacefully on July 11, 2016, at William Beaumont Hospital with his loving family by his side at the age of 89. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a faithful Catholic Church member, a WWII - U.S.Army veteran, a professional dancer and he had a successful career in insurance sales.

He was born on May 27, 1927 to the late Valentino and Katherine (nee Novak) Frizzo in Caspian, Michigan. After proudly serving his country during WWII in the United States Army, Val became a professional ballroom dancer and teacher. He met his dearly loved wife, Helen, during his dancing career. After they married in 1959, he joined the John Hancock Company in insurance sales. Later, he joined the Prudential Company where he retired after 40 years of servicing the insurance needs of many individuals and families. One of Val’s avid hobbies was landscaping in which he was very keen about caring for his flowers and lawn. He loved traveling and dining with friends and family. He was an extremely true to life man with a generous spirit and he instilled these values in his children and those around him.

Val leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Helen (née Raytis) Frizzo of the home. His very much loved children Dr. Mark (Wendy) Frizzo, Catherine (Jim) Stegenga, Anne ( Timothy) Long, Christopher Frizzo, and Susan (David) Ferrara and his cherished grandchildren Matthew, Lauren, Angela, Francesca, Shamane and Jacob.

Beside his parents, Val was preceded in death by his much loved brother, Dionige Frizzo and beloved sister, Therese (Bernard) Puma.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.), Friday, July 15th, 2-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 740 S. Lafayette, Royal Oak, Saturday, July 16th at 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation, 7151 N. Main St., Suite 2, Clarkston, MI 48346 or the Development Department, Michigan Humane Society, 30300 Telegraph Road, Suite 220, Bingham Farms, MI 48025. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at church.
