Obituary for Sean Michael Clougherty

Sean Michael Clougherty, 56, died suddenly on Sunday, September 27, leaving behind his grieving wife, Anna Strek of Mielec, Poland and his surviving siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Bernard Clougherty and Jean Irene Clougherty, nee Armfield.

Sean was the youngest of seven children: Peggy (Ron) Ezell; Terence (Linda) Clougherty; Catherine Clougherty; Trissy Knight; Kenan (Terri) Clougherty; and Ann (Steve) Danton, all of whom mourn his untimely demise.

Sean also left behind 11 nieces and nephews, as well as 14 grandnieces and grandnephews. The void his loss leaves in their lives will continue for years to come. His ability to instruct them and engage them on their own levels will live fondly in their memories.

His profession was engineering, which suited his attention to research and detail, but he had a thirst for learning as much as he could about everything. He enjoyed sharing what he had learned with those around him. This led to interesting discussions (also known as debates) with those with whom he shared his knowledge.

He possessed an artistic bent which was reflected in the sketches, drawings and designs he created. Because these came so easily to him, he discounted his abilities. He thought everyone could do it.

Central to his life was his faith, a passion he shared with his wife. Sean was a staunch Catholic and a mighty defender of his faith. He wanted to ensure that the people around him, especially his family, would be able to spend eternity together in Heaven. He saw it as his mission that people not be led astray because he was silent.

Sean was a loving person who shared of himself with others. He was kind and generous, and his sense of humor was infectious. As noted above, he was a great debater. Sean’s absence will be sorely felt, but our memories of our encounters with him will be long remembered.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Roads), Clawson, Friday, October 2, 4-6pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church, 3100 18 Mile Road, Sterling Heights, Saturday, October 3, at 10:30am. Burial will take place immediately following Mass in All Saints Cemetery, Waterford Township.

Memorials appreciated to Assumption Grotto Catholic Church, 13770 Gratiot Avenue, Detroit, Michigan 48205.
