Obituary for Sandra Lee Andrew

Sandra Lee Andrew died March 30, 2017. She was 73 years old. Sandra was born August 30, 1943 in Detroit to Dorothy (nee McCarthy) and Steve Chopp. When she was 12 the family moved to Cedar Island Lake in White Lake. Sandra was a member of the first, full four year graduating class of Milford High School. After high school Sandra worked as a secretary for an advertising firm then for General Motors in the computer department.

In 1970 Sandra married John Andrew, stopped working and concentrated on having and raising five children. The family moved to Florida in the late 1970’s where, along with her husband she ran their seafood restaurant and hotel businesses while still caring for her five children.

After John’s death Sandra moved the family back to Michigan and after a few years began working as the church secretary at St. Benedict Parish under Fr. O’Hagen. She was at St. Ben’s for several years and loved it but couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a position as a mail distribution clerk at the U.S. Postal service. Sandra retired from the post office at the age of 65.

Sandra enjoyed playing Sudoko every day for hours, she embraced anything that could challenge her mind. She loved music, especially Vivaldi (music of the angels) and Barry White, as well as films, especially those featuring Robert DeNiro. Sandra loved the water, lakes, but especially loved the ocean and the power it possessed.

Sandra was a devout Christian and spiritual being. She never missed an opportunity to witness to strangers and family the glory and love of Jesus Christ. She would frequently say that Jesus and family are all that matters in life because that’s what you’ll have for all eternity.

Sandra is survived by her children, Kurt Andrew, Stefan (Lacie) Andrew, Maria (Richard) Sherman, and Elana (Brian) Gustafson and grandchildren, John, Rebecca, Anthony, Jordan, Alexus, Sarah, Brandon, and Peyton. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Savannah, sister, Kathleen (Richard) Cavill, nieces, Lauri and Cherie, and father-in-law, Emil Gerber. Sandra is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Andrew, daughter, Christina Andrew, parents, Steve and Dorothy Chopp and mother-in-law, Flora Gerber.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Tuesday April 4th at 1pm. Friends may visit beginning at 10am. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Detroit.
