Obituary for Sally Spink Fleming

Sally Spink Fleming, 74, of Bloomfield Hills, MI, passed away suddenly on July 6, 2021, in Beaumont Hospital, Troy, MI.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Jenkintown, PA, Sally was the daughter of Constance Spink Fleming and the late William M. B. Fleming.

After graduation from Jenkintown High School, Sally received her BA in Economics from Earlham College (1968) and her MSBA in Finance/Economics from the University of Denver (1969). Her financial career spanned 30 years managing treasury, controller, and information system functions. She had an exceptionally diverse experience with four Fortune 300 companies, from the shop floor to the corporate office during times of start-up, restructuring, and growth. Sally began with the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI. Next she worked as a controller for Clark Equipment Company in Buchanan, MI, and as a director for Manville Corporation in Denver, CO. She also worked as a director for Arvinmeritor, Inc. in Troy, MI.

Sally traveled in Europe, South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Russia. She especially liked to connect with her family and friends. During her 20 years of retirement, Sally worked at Block Advisors, becoming knowledgeable in tax preparation. She was proud to achieve the status of an IRS certified Enrolled Agent. Gifted with numbers, she enjoyed helping people with tax questions. Sally is remembered for her intelligence, humor, and kindness. Sally loved Starbucks and Sudoku.

Sally was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church in Birmingham, MI. She had been a member of the Board of Directors of Automotive Axles Limited, Mysore, India – Rockwell joint venture

Sally is survived by her mother, Constance S. Fleming, of Kennett Square, PA; her sister, Constance F. Strickland (James) of Dover, DE; and her brother, William M. B. Fleming, Jr. (Pamela) of Perdido Key, FL. She was especially supportive of her three nieces and two nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her father, William M. B. Fleming.

A private service and burial will be held at a later date in Philadelphia, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Earlham College, 801 National Road West, Richmond, IN 47374-4095 ( or to the National Kidney Foundation.
