Obituary for Ruxanda Serban
Ruxanda (Rodica) Serban of Bloomfield Hills died July 21, 2019 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was 82 years old. Ruxanda was born March 20, 1937 in Galati, Romania to parents Catrina and Paraschiv. She was the oldest of 6 siblings.
For 35 years, Ruxanda served as a dedicated social worker for the deaf in Romania. Her dedication to her work was only matched by her dedication to her family whom she loved with all her heart.
Throughout her struggle with her health, Rodica remained independent and a fighter. She contributed to the household in the most meaningful ways, particularly in her role as mother and grandmother. Her granddaughter, Catrina, was the light of her life.
With the love and generosity of her son-in-law Namir and his family, Madeleine and Yousif Stephan, Rodica was able to enjoy many precious years with her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, sharing their home and her wisdom as they built their lives in the United States. They provided her with the opportunity to devote her remaining years to her family; a gift that can never be repaid.
Rodica was also blessed with a few good friends who helped her in her most difficult times. Three women in particular, Nadia, Fana and Chivuta, cared for her and stood by her side until the end. Their love, kindness and patience will forever be remembered.
Above all, Ruxanda was a woman of faith. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
Ruxanda is survived by her loving daughter Elena, son-in-law, Namir, her cherished granddaughter, Catrina, and her two caring sisters, Ani and Florica.
Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home (1368 N. Crooks Rd., between 14-15 mile roads) on Wednesday, July 24th, from 6-8pm with a Prayer Service beginning at 7pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Theodora of Sihla Romanian Orthodox Church (236 13 Mile Rd., Royal Oak) on Thursday, July 25th, at 10am. Friends may visit at the church beginning at 9:30am. Interment will take place in Oakview Cemetery, Royal Oak.
