Obituary for Rosemary Catherine Giffen

Rosemary Catherine (Watson) Giffen age 89, passed away on May 4, 2011 at Boulevard Health Center in Rochester Hills. She was born in Detroit on October 3, 1921 to Edwardine and Bill Bradley. Rosemary married John F. Giffen on November 21, 1942, who predeceased her on October 29, 1979. She married Jessie Watson on October 19, 1985, who predeceased her on October 30, 2004. Rosemary retired from Ford Motor Company on January 1, 1984.

She is the dear mother of Sharon, John (deceased), Denis (Marion), Susan (Dan), Shaun (deceased), Jerry, and Shavan (David). Beloved and thoughtful grandmother of Paul, Bradley, Margaret, Katee, Matthew, Michael, Anne Marie, Daniel, Jamieson, Rosemarie, Lauren, Jaclyn, Caitlin, Shannon, and Todd and great-grandmother of Ryan, Asher, Jack, Landon, Liam, Allie, Gabrielle, Sophia and Michael. Loving sister of the late Jane Glonka and Peggy Courtney. Loving sister-in-law of Joan Giffen Donahue, Kevin Giffen, and the late Eileen Giffen Burns, Emma Giffen Max, Maureen Giffen Keating, and James Gerard Giffen. Special aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Rosemary was fortunate to have many special caregivers, including Fay, and visitors at Boulevard Health Center, and her family is grateful for their support. Rosemary had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed music, dancing and celebrating her Irish heritage. She was passionate about expressing her opinion in regard to injustices. For example, she met with Governor Engler to express her disappointment in his closing of state mental health hospitals and facilities; she wrote a letter in 1988 to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to complain about the troubles in Northern Ireland and received a response; and her letters to the Editor of The Detroit Free Press were frequently printed in the paper. She will be sorely missed.
