Obituary for Rosa Ostaszewski

Rosa Ostaszewski of Warren passed away June 16, 2021. She was 93 years old. Rosa was born June 8, 1928 in Detroit to Mary (nee Haddad) and James Abraham.

Rosa worked on the assembly line installing car parts and also at the Chrysler plant cafeteria but her main focus and most important role in life was that of being a faithful wife and loving mother. She was a woman of faith and prayed the rosary freely and often. Rosa taught her children early on how to pray the rosary through her quiet example. Her faith was important to her and she passed that on to her family.

Rosa was a generous woman who crocheted blankets whenever a new baby was being welcomed into the family. Several lucky babies have been wrapped in the warmth of one of Rosa’s blankets. She was also very loyal and remained in touch with many of her childhood friends throughout life.

An avid reader and card player, Rosa also enjoyed Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She became quite good at accurately guessing the puzzles and answering questions. She also was fascinated by and followed the stories of the American Ninja Warriors. Their strength and devotion were impressive to Rosa. She possessed some of the same strength and determination when it came to her rehab after her falls and declining health. Never one to complain, Rosa possessed a positive attitude even when she was experiencing trials. She was a patient woman who was known for telling the truth, even if it at times it was hard to hear.

While raising her family Rosa tolerated the family dogs that her children always wanted. She was not a dog lover but accepted them and later her grand dogs because she knew her children loved them. That was just one example of her kind spirit.

Rosa enjoyed traveling with her husband, Chet. They drove to Florida for many years, making friends wherever they went. True adventurers, they camped in tents well into their eighties.

A devoted wife, mother, aunt, sister, and friend, Rosa will be remembered for her love and commitment to her family. She was deeply loved and will be missed by many.

Rosa is survived by her children, Teresa Ostaszewski, Sandra (Richard) Rychcik, John Ostaszewski, and Nancy (Steve) Messina. She is also survived by her brother William “Willie” Abraham, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Rosa is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Chet Ostaszewski and siblings, John Abraham, Virginia Petroni, and Abraham Abraham.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Sunday, June 20th, 3-7pm. Due to covid, a private prayer service will be held. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Malachy Church, 14115 E. Fourteen Mile Road, Sterling Heights, Monday, June 21st, at 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am.
