Obituary for Robert J. Knighton

Robert J. Knighton of West Bloomfield died suddenly at home June 13, 2012. He was 60 years old. Bob was born May 14, 1952, in Canada, to Agatha (nee Lee) and C. Victor Knighton.

Shortly after Bobs birth, his family moved to Michigan. He grew up in Warren and graduated from Warren Woods High School. He continued his education at Wayne State University. On August 28, 1982, he married the love of his life, Alice Churukian. Bob completed his Journeyman's license in carpentry and worked at General Motors for 27 years.

During Bobs healthier years he truly enjoyed boating, attending car shows, and spending time with friends and family. He spent many years renovating his and Alices home in Birmingham and later in West Bloomfield. He was always there to lend a helping hand to those who needed his professional help. In social gatherings, he was happy to have conversations with as many people as he could. He especially enjoyed entertaining family at his pool. He loved seeing the children having fun, and always had a smile on his face. As his health failed, the company of his dog, Heidi, was extremely comforting to him; their bond was extraordinary.

In later years, Bob struggled deeply with the inability to stay active and do what he enjoyed most. Pain and depression took their toll. Because of his Catholic faith, he felt a strong bond with God. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.

Bob is survived by his wife, Alice Churukian, and sisters, LeeAnn Knighton, Beth (Jim) Bryan, and Colleen (Frank) Schubert. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Adrina (David) Sherman and Arlene (Gary) Aidem, his dear mother-in-law Dorothy Churukian, and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Columban Church, 1775 E. Melton, Birmingham, Monday 11am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10am.

Interment in Pine Lake Cemetery, West Bloomfield.

Memorials appreciated to Michigan Humane Society, 30300 Telegraph Road, Suite 220, Bingham Farms, Michigan 48025, or the charity of the donors choice.
