Obituary for Robert E. Nelson

Robert E. Nelson, died at his home in Bloomfield Hills, October 3, 2010, joining his beloved wife, Ruth who died September 17, 2010. He was 85 years old. Mr. Nelson was born December 6, 1924, in Pontiac, to Audrey (nee Ferguson) and Earl Nelson. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII.

He graduated from Michigan Technological University and worked in the automotive industry for 40 years. Mr. Nelson was instrumental in improving vehicle traffic safety and was honored by the Society of Automotive Engineers. He was proud of his appearance in the movie �Disappearing City� with Ronald Reagan. Mr. Nelson was a very active member of the Church of St. Owen where he was a lector and Past President of the Parish Council as well as a volunteer with several other organizations. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Mr. Nelson is survived by his children, Michael (Pam) Nelson, Mary (Frank) Fisch, Ruth (Carl) Rauch, Robert E. Nelson, Jr., James Nelson, John Nelson, Teri (Cyril) Hageman and Cathi (David) Pierce. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Courtney, Aaron, Matthew, Drew, Jaime, Veronica, Christie, Christopher and Jacob, great-granddaughter, Grace and siblings, Mary Catherine (Carl) Archambeau, Deacon James (Kathy) Nelson and Margaret Guthaus. Mr. Nelson is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth J. Nelson.

Funeral from Church of St. Owen, 6869 Franklin Road, Bloomfield Hills, Friday 11am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10:30am. Visitation at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Thursday 4-8pm. Prayers Thursday 7pm.
