Obituary for Robert Bruce White

Robert Bruce White (Pop): 7/15/1924- 1/14/2019

Pop greeted this world on a warm summer’s day from the upstairs bedroom of the family home in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. Son of Curtice Chandler White & Myrtle White (Foster). Pop moved on to the next world Monday January 14, 2019 in the care of the wonderful staff of the Frances memory care unit at Bellbrook in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Pop grew up in the fields of Southampton, Pennsylvania on the outskirts of Philadelphia. A natural athlete he played both soccer and baseball through high school. At eighteen Pop was drafted and served three years during WW II in the Army Air Corp seeing service overseas in both England and France. Following his military service Pop returned home to marry his sweetheart Lily Marie Bloodworth. Mama was a southern belle from Columbia, South Carolina. whom Pop met while in basic training at Fort Jackson in 1942. In the months that followed before shipping out for Europe she was his reason for going AWOL numerous times.

Following the war Pop and Mama moved north to Philadelphia where dad graduated from Temple University with his BS and where they began to raise their boys Bill & Bruce. Pop’s professional career was largely split between Standard Pressed Steel of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania and General Electric’s Carboloy division of Warren, Michigan. Marketing and sales was his specialty. Pop and Mama retired in 1988 moving south to be with her family in Columbia, South Carolina. After Mama’s passing in August 2008 Pop moved back to Michigan to be closer to his boys.

Pop’s life focused on his family. He loved our mother and he loved his sons. We will always love and miss our father. He will always be a part of who we are and an example and guide for how to live life in the years ahead.

Pop will be interred at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina.

Pop is survived by his sons:

William (Bill) Chandler White and Bill’s Children Alex White (Sarah) & Natalie White (Jessica) and grandchildren Layla & Mason.

Robert Bruce White Jr and wife Sandra, son Dean Bach (Denise), and grandchildren Parker & Josie.
