Obituary for Robert A. Geiss

Robert A. Geiss of Troy, died November 8, 2011, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was 86 years old. Mr. Geiss was born January 11, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Regina (nee Campbell) and Aloysius Geissenhainer.

At a young age Robert started working at a Washington D.C. airport, gassing and cleaning airplanes. By age 16 he had received his solo pilot license and by 18, he had his commercial license. In 1943, he began flying airplanes for the Unites States Navy.

Mr. Geiss majored in Foreign Services at Georgetown University, where he also met his wife Rosemarie, who was attending Catholic University. At the time of Rosemarie�s death, they had been married nearly 57 years. Mr. Geiss lived and raised his family in many different cities including Caracas, Venezuela, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Havana, Cuba, Miami, Florida, and Mexico City, Mexico.

In retirement Mr. Geiss lived in both Mexico and Brownsville, Texas, before enjoying his time in Sun City Center, Florida. In 2009, he moved back to Michigan to be closer to his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Mr. Geiss is survived by his children, John (Liz) Geiss, Robert Geiss, Jr., Christine (Dan) Giancarlo, and Laurie (Shawn) Hilvers. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alexandra, Chris, Andrea, Justin, and Rachel, and sisters, Regina Schwartz and Betty Turner. Mr. Geiss is preceded in death by his wife, Rosemarie.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated privately at Holy Name Catholic Church in Birmingham.
