Obituary for Rita J. Winter

Rita J. Winter was a caring, faith-filled amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She always went out of her way to make each person she met feel special and loved-most memorable were her heartfelt hugs.

Rita was devoted to her church, the rosary and the Blessed Mother. Her most cherished asset was her family of five children, their spouses and 21 grandchildren. Rita was loved by everyone who knew her. Our hearts are truly broken.

Rita Janet Margiotta was born in Detroit on July 8, 1930 to the late Filomena and Dominic Margiotta. She is the dear sister of Anna Marie, Hilda and Louie Margiotta (Carol), as well as the late Theresa and Anthony Margiotta.

She graduated from St. Francis DeSales High School in 1948, where she met Bill Winter whom she married on January 29, 1955. They welcomed twin sons Patrick and Daniel in January 1958, Nancy Ann in 1959, Carol Rita in 1962 and Veronica Bridget in 1965. She proudly earned her BA in English from Oakland University in 1986. She was a devoted wife, mother of five and grandmother of 21.

Rita is survived by her beloved husband, Bill Winter and children, Patrick (Mary) Winter, Daniel (Denise) Winter, Nancy (Bill) Allio, Carol (Tim) Grombala, and Veronica (Dan) O’Hara. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alexander, Marisa, Rachel, Grace, Christian, Grant, Patrick, Mary, Gloria, Will, Monica, Clare, Danielle, Dominica, Olivia, Anthony, Nicholas, Colleen, Emily, Bridget, and Ryan and siblings, Anna Marie Ferguson, Hilda (the late David) Patterson, and Louie (Carol) Margiotta. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews: Scott (godson), Stephanie, Paul, Daryl, Dawn, Julie (god daughter), Colleen, Dana, Gina and Angela. Rita is preceded in death by her brother, Tony Margiotta and sister, Theresa Margiotta.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Friday, January 25th, 2-8pm with a Rosary at 5:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Regis Catholic Church, 3695 Lincoln Drive, Bloomfield Hills, Saturday, January 26th at 12 noon. Friends may visit at church beginning at 11am. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
