Obituary for Richard L. Kramer

Richard “Rick” Lawrence Kramer, of Royal Oak, passed away peacefully in his home on March 15th after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 67 years old. He is survived by his wife Terrie, son Bill, daughter Tori (Kiel), beloved grandchildren Josephine and Parker, and brother Gerald. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Jane, his siblings Lorraine, William and Fred, and his grandson Gavin Richard.

Rick was larger than life, both literally and figuratively. Standing tall at 6’6 with a booming voice and a booming personality, he commanded attention when he entered a room. Strong-willed until the very end, he was intensely committed to his family and worked tirelessly for over 30 years as an engineer at Chrysler in order to provide for them. Getting to know his grandchildren brought true happiness to his life, and nothing was more special to him than cooking pancakes, baking, and playing with play doh, water balloons and bubbles with them.

Rick was also deeply committed to Alcoholics Anonymous, a group that saved his life and helped him find joy and purpose, in spite of his hardships. He was inspired by many, and returned the favor by inspiring countless others with his commitment to sobriety and bettering himself. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him, and we are all better people for having known him.

A service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Sobriety House, http://www.sobrietyhouse.net/donations/form/
