Obituary for Richard B. Lutz, Jr.

Richard B. Lutz, Jr. of Birmingham died peacefully surrounded by his family, February 23, 2017. He was 79 years old. Dick was born February 17, 1938, in Detroit to Marian (nee Hussey) and Richard B. Lutz, Sr.

A native Detroiter, Dick graduated from Precious Blood grade school and Catholic Central High School, Class of 1956. Dick then went on to attend the University of Detroit and U of D Law School.

A successful entrepreneur his entire life, Dick started his first company while still in law school. His business acumen, tenacity, and fearlessness served him well throughout his professional career.

He remained active his entire life. Along with his family, he enjoyed running, tennis, skiing, sailing, biking, and walking. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time surrounded by his big family.

Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was deeply loved and will be missed tremendously.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Margaret and children, Bridget (John) Apap, Richard (Molly) Lutz III, Maura (Dave) Morgan, Molly (Joe) Schwartz, Katie (Joe) Hart, and Tom (Justine) Lutz, MD. Affectionately known as Bop to his cherished grandchildren: Mary Clare, Jack, Hannah, Paddy, Gen, Reilly, Fiona, Brendan, Joey, Tommy, Patrick, Abby, Ellie, Maggie, Mary Kate, Thomas, Johnny, Tommy, Jr., Sean, and Mary Margaret. Dick is preceded in death by his infant son, Patrick Lutz and brother, John (Sharon) Lutz.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon, Birmingham, Monday, February 27th at 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9am.

A private burial will take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
