Obituary for Raymond F. Carroll

Ray Carroll, a longtime resident of Royal Oak, died peacefully February 18, 2019. He was 90 years old. Ray was born November 10, 1928 in Ferndale, Michigan to Elizabeth (nee O’Malley) and Daniel Carroll.

He retired from Michigan Bell and EDS and was a vice-president of his union.

A man of great faith, Ray was a member of St James Catholic Church in Ferndale, St Columban’s Catholic Church in Birmingham and finally at National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica in Royal Oak where he was an usher.

Ray loved to golf, fishing and boating at his summer home in Grayling, and fires in his fireplace at home. His greatest joy however came from spending time with his family.
He married his high school sweetheart, Iva Herron in 1949 and together they built their lives around home, family and each other. They were blessed with 7 children, 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Ray was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Ray is survived by his children, Marilyn (Glen) Papandrea, Kathy (Jeff) Struzik, Maureen (Rick) Sage, Steven (Grant) Carroll, Thomas Carroll, Peggy (Peter) Costello, and Jeff (Jennie) Carroll. He is also survived by his grandchildren, David (Emily) Papandrea, Jennifer (James) Warrow, Sara (Casey) VanNostrand, Scott (Sarah) Struzik, Stephanie (Ian) Jones, Andrew Urbats, Jaclyn (Darin) Mishall, Jason (Angela) Carroll, Taylor (Jaccob Gibson) Carroll, Patrick (Julie) Costello, Megan Costello, Ian Costello, Alex Carroll, and Olivia Carroll and great-grandchildren, Jack, Grace, Ryder, Sofia, Cameron, Evan, Elaina, Elizabeth, Emmaline, Owen, Luke, Kearsten, Garrett, Charlee, Caiden, Alexa, Audra, and Lyla. Ray is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Iva Carroll.

A private Funeral Mass will be held at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica in Royal Oak.

In memory of Ray donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
