Obituary for Raymond C. Dennis

Raymond Carl Dennis was born on December 2nd, 1945 at Henry Ford hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He was born to two hard working parents, Edward and Helen Dennis, and raised in the Polish community of Hamtramck. Ray attended and graduated high school from the University of Detroit in 1963. Following high school, he obtained an Associate’s degree from Northwood University and a Bachelor’s from Western Michigan University in 1968. While at Western Michigan, he met the love of his life Mary Ellen Weiss on a blind date.

Following college, Ray enlisted in officers’ training for the United States Army, and spent 18 months on the front lines of the Vietnam war. Upon his return, Ray and Mary Ellen were married at Guardian Angels church in Clawson, Michigan on July 3, 1970. They spent the next 26 years residing in Troy, Michigan where they met and developed many lifelong friendships. Ray specialized in telecommunications and spent many years working predominantly at both Michigan Bell and Kmart Corporation. Ray and Mary Ellen raised two children, Sarah and Michael, and Ray was active throughout their childhood as both a soccer coach with the Troy Youth Soccer League and a baseball coach for the Troy Baseball Boosters. His favorite times though were spent coaching his beloved Troy Twins baseball team, who competed in the Macomb Amateur Baseball Federation.

Ray and Mary Ellen moved to Carmel, Indiana in 1996 and resided for 13 years in a home they built. He went to work for Resort Condominiums International until they were acquired by Cendant Corporation in 2000. At Cendant, Ray served as the Vice President of Technology and Emerging Technology and spent much of his time traveling weekly to their headquarters in Parsippany, New Jersey.

Following retirement, Ray and Mary Ellen moved to Gilbert, Arizona in 2009, where they lived on a 6-year vacation full of warm weather and relaxation. Their desire to be closer to family and Ray’s deteriorating health led them back to Troy in 2015. Ray spent the last 3 years of his life enjoying spending time with his children and grandchildren both in Troy and in Barrington, Illinois.

Ray fought courageously for many years through many different forms of cancer and ailments directly linked to his service for our country in the Vietnam war. His final battle ended peacefully on December 12, 2018. He was beloved by everyone that had the privilege of meeting him, and he will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ellen (nee Weiss) and his loving children, Sarah (Jonathan) Giunchedi and Mike (Sharyn) Dennis. Ray is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Joshua and Katherine Giunchedi, Michael, Tenley, and Laityn Dennis, his aunt, Regina Vought, his sisters-in-law, Ann M. Weiss and Ann Zipser, brother-in-law, Michael Zipser, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Edward Dennis, his mother and father-in-law, Elsie and Robert Wizinsky, and his brothers-in-law, James R. Weiss and Robert Wizinsky.
