Obituary for Ralph J. Schwab, Jr.

Ralph J. Schwab, Jr., a longtime resident of Birmingham died Saturday April 2, 2016 at his home. He was 90 years old. Ralph was born December 22, 1925 in Detroit to parents Ralph J., Sr. and S. Frances Schwab.

Ralph proudly served in the United States Navy. He married Virginia Murray on April 24, 1948 and together raised seven children. Ralph had a long career as a tool & die maker before retiring in 2002. He was a member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Troy and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Royal Oak. Ralph was an avid baseball fan and in his playing days as a gritty catcher, was scouted by numerous major league clubs. He also gave of his time as an assistant football coach at St. Martin’s High School for many years and was much loved in his neighborhood.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Ralph was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Ralph is survived by his loving children, Kathy (Gary) Bertram, Ralph J. (Diane) Schwab, III, Denise (the late John) Fouracre, John (Linda) Schwab, Tim (Denise) Schwab, Jill Samuels, and Paul (Denise) Schwab. He adored his 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Stuart (Shirley) Schwab, sister, Dorothy (the late Tom) Peacock. Ralph is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia and sister, Marge Schemansky.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Tuesday 1-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ Our Light Church, 2345 Coolidge Rd., Troy, Wednesday at 10:30am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10am. Committal services with military honors will follow at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
