Obituary for Peter Hodges

Peter Hodges, of Bloomfield Hills, died June 4, 2021. He was 90 years old. Peter was born November 7, 1930 in Anderson, Indiana to Anastasia (nee Karas) and Nicholas Psihogios. He was raised on 8 mile in Detroit and graduated from Cass Tech High School in 1948. He received his Engineering Degree from Wayne State University in 1953 and his Law degree in 1956. Following graduation from Law School, Pete served in the United States Navy.

Peter met Ellen Mitchell while at WSU in 1953 and they were married on July 27, 1957. “Popcorn Pete” actually sold the popcorn wagon he owned and operated during his University years to buy an engagement ring for Ellen. Their marriage would span nearly 64 years, bringing them 4 children and 8 grandchildren. Of all his hard work and successes, Peter would tell you family was his “biggest accomplishment”.

Peter worked briefly in patent law, then at the Chrysler Missile Plant. He then began his career in Commercial Development. Among his developments were over 20 Bowling Centers, several of which he retained and operated over the years. He also developed several Residential Properties including his first Duplex and current home in Bloomfield Hills.

A founding member of Great Oaks Country Club in Rochester, Michigan, Peter enjoyed 40 years of Florida winters where he golfed at Boca Del Mar Country Club. Needless to say, he loved golf, bowling, and his first love, Ellen. They travelled to many countries with Wayne State Alumni, enjoyed cruises, and attended many bowling proprietor’s conventions.

Losing 2 siblings at a young age made Peter appreciate life to the fullest. He worked and played hard. He was loyal, inquisitive and valued education. A generous caretaker to his family and friends, gentle and patient, Peter was always happy to give a kiss and a hug in greeting. Even with declining health, Peter remained gentle and kind. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace in God’s care We envision him whistling his way through heavens gates.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen and children, Gail Callaghan, Cindy McMullen, John (Julie) Hodges, and Michael (Jennifer) Hodges. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shane Callaghan, Megan Callaghan, Kara Callaghan, Jennifer McMullen, Mitchell McMullen, Lauren Hodges, Tyler Hodges, and Noah Hodges, niece, Kim (Ray) VanDeVeer, and nephews, Ken Thompson and Tom Klingensmith.

Private Services will be held.
