Obituary for Patrick Michael McDonald

Patrick Michael McDonald, of Troy, died suddenly November 5, 2010. He was 24 years old. Patrick was born February 2, 1986 in Royal Oak, Michigan to Camille (nee Salhaney) and Paul McDonald.

Patrick attended Wass Elementary and Larson Middle School as a young man before graduating from Troy Athens High School in 2004, where he twice competed in the Forensic Team State Finals. He then went on to receive his Bachelors Degree in Molecular Biology and Chemistry from the University of Detroit.

Patrick had a lifelong love for downhill skiing as he began learning with his dad at the age of 3, and for several years, he spent every Saturday taking racing lessons at Mt. Holly. He also inherited his dads love for cars, which led to his purchasing a 1972 MR2 for $75 in order to restore it with the help of his dad and neighbor. For 3 years, Patrick worked as a bat boy and clubhouse attendant for the Detroit Tigers. His claim to fame with the Tigers came when he made ESPNs SportsCenter for catching a fair ball and giving it to a fan!

Patrick was well known for his sense of humor; he even attended a summer camp at Second City to foster his comedic talents. He could make conversation with anyone, whether they were 2 years old or 90. He genuinely cared for the wellbeing of others, especially the less fortunate. His true love, however, was his girlfriend, Kristin, and their shared passion for the outdoors biking, hiking, rock climbing, camping, canoeing, and, most of all, laughing and being together. A devoted son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, Patrick was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his parents, Paul and Camille McDonald, his brother, Christopher McDonald, his grandmother, Agnes Salhaney, his niece, Haley White, and many aunts, uncles, and friends.

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Monday 2-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 4571 John R (between 17-18 Mile Rds.) Tuesday 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am.

Memorials appreciated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 21311 Civic Center Drive, Southfield, MI 48076.
