Obituary for Nick Oancea

Nick Oancea died peacefully on July 1, 2021 in Vero Beach, Florida surrounded by the love of his family, Mary Ann and Jerry Lievois, and loving companion of 13 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Cates. He celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends in February.

Nick was born on February 1, 1931 in Canton, OH to parents John and Anna Oancea. He resided in Bloomfield Village, Michigan for over 40 years and lived in the Sea Oaks Beach and Tennis Community in Vero Beach, Florida during the past 15 years.

Mr. Oancea attended Kenyon College where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree (1953) He was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, as V.P. and Social Chairman. In September 1953 he entered the U.S. Army in Fort Benning, GA, becoming a Sergeant with active-duty discharge after 2 years. He remained in the Military Reserve with honorable discharge. Following the Military, he attended Cornell University and earned his Master of Business Administration degree, class of 1957. Upon graduation, Nick started his 34-year Marketing Career at Ford Motor Company and retired from the Lincoln Mercury Division in 1991.

Nick was an active member of Holy Name Church, Birmingham, Trinity Church Vero Beach, the Birmingham Athletic Club (B.A.C.), Stony Croft Hills Golf Club, Birmingham Senior Men’s Club and Sea Oaks. He loved being involved as a past Board Member of Bloomfield Village Association, was a Board Member of the B.A.C. and recently as a Sea Oaks TVA association Board Member.

Nick was preceded in death by his first love and beautiful wife of 48 years, Ann Oancea, who passed away June 23, 2006. He is the loving father of Mary Ann (Jerry) Lievois. During a Church Trip to the Holy Land, he met Betty Cates, who he loved dearly for the last 13 years. Nick was the youngest of 5 boys, with brothers Leon, John, Pete and Daniel Oancea who all passed away before him.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon Street, Birmingham, Michigan on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 10am.
