Obituary for Nancy Lynn Leonard

Nancy Lynn Leonard passed away in Royal Oak, Michigan on December 15, 2021, with her husband Roy at her side. She was born on September 2, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan.

Nancy began her career in marketing at Tracey Locke where she served loyally as an executive assistant for 8 years. She left the firm in 1993 to become a full time mother to her two children, Nicole and Brian. She dedicated the next 4 years to motherhood, providing plenty of love and care to them both. Nancy was incredibly focused on her children’s education and made sure they never missed an assignment and spent many late nights providing whatever help was needed for them to succeed.

An accomplished mother of two, she took to her next career as a law clerk for the 44th District Court where she worked for 18 years. Nancy supported numerous magistrates at the court preparing them for their days in the courtroom. Nancy’s work ethic was only matched by her dry sense of humor that earned her many lifelong friendships with her fellow clerks. Nancy maintained a delicate balance in her new career, always making sure to leave on time to pick up her kids from school, feed her family, take her kids to soccer and enjoy a glass of wine before bed.

Nancy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease that deteriorated her body and mind over the last 10 years of her life. Despite her condition, her loving husband, Roy, made it his mission for Nancy to see the world. Together, they became frequent cruisers and saw the world via boat, as they learned this was quite accommodating to people in wheelchairs. Roy cared for Nancy as her primary caregiver for 5 years prior to her taking residence at Mission Point nursing home for her final 2 years.

Nancy was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan and would rarely miss one of their 183 games. When the Tigers were not playing, you could find Nancy chatting or gaming with her sisters, Diane and Judy, or attending a Rod Stuart concert with Roy. She did not acquire tremendous wealth in her lifetime, but the wisdom she had and shared with friends and family was worth its weight in gold. Nancy was also willing to lend an ear to those close to her and for that she will be incredibly missed.

Nancy is survived by her husband Roy Leonard, daughter Nicole (Alex) Murrell, son Brian Leonard, sisters Judy (Dan) Haffner and Linda (Michael) Menzel, and brother David (Krista) McCandless.

Friends may visit at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home 1368 N Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Roads) on Wednesday December 22 from 5-8pm with a sharing of memories beginning at 7pm. The family requests that visitors please be masked.

Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
