Obituary for Myra A. Schafka

Myra Ann Schafka, formerly of Royal Oak, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2019 at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Myra was born in Harbor Beach, Michigan, the youngest of four children, to Theresa (nee Gwisdala) and Louis Schafka.

She was a proud retiree of General Motors, where she spent her entire career. Myra enjoyed music, reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends, especially if that time included playing a game of Scrabble. She also made time to give back through volunteer work with several organizations, including St. Mary’s Food Pantry, American Red Cross blood drives, and the Arthritis Foundation of Michigan.

Myra was a devoted sister throughout the lives of those who preceded her in death: her brother Raymond (Helen) Schafka, sister Catherine (Warren) Schlack, sister Florence (Chris) Hall.

Myra is survived by her nieces and nephews who loved her and will miss her deeply. Roger (Laura) Schlack, Gail (Phil) MacGregor, Michael (Barbara) Schafka, Mark (Valerie) Schafka, Susan Schlack, Lori (Gene) Warman. Myra is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 3077 Glouchester, Troy. Tuesday, October 15, at 10:30 am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10 am. Visitation at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Monday, October 14, from 4 – 8 pm. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
