Obituary for Millicent G. Worrell

Millicent Worrell passed away peacefully at her home in Beverly Hills, Michigan on August 4, 2018. She was 94 years old. Millicent was born March 15, 1924 in Detroit to Gertrude (nee Griffee) and Vaulette Winegard. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-eight years, Frank Worrell.

Millicent graduated from Holy Redeemer High School and University of Detroit, and pursued master’s studies in Social Work at Columbia University in New York where she worked with Catholic Social Services. Frank and Millicent married after he returned from WWII. Together, they moved to Detroit, built a house on Bellvine Trail in Beverly Hills and raised five daughters.

Millicent’s talent for writing was evident when she became a regular contributor to the Birmingham Eccentric. She joined the Public Relations department at the Cranbrook Educational Community in 1977 and worked there until her retirement. Her years at Cranbrook enriched her and she deeply valued the lifelong friends she made there.

St. Regis was both a cornerstone and touchstone in Millicent’s life. She and Frank were founding members of the parish when it began as a mission in 1959. A devoted mother, she actively participated in St. Regis and Marian while her daughters were attending the schools. Later in life, Millicent also attended daily mass followed by coffee with her friends.

Millicent was an excellent Bridge player. She played in several leagues and especially loved her afternoon games over lunch at the Village Club where she was a member for twenty-four years.

Millicent is survived by her daughters: Deborah Worrell, Denise (Jeffrey Fiskin) Worrell, Amy (the late Carl) LaForest, Melissa (Conover Brown) Worrell, and Mary (Gregory Bousquette) Worrell. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Michael, Madeleine and Tessa Worrell, Jake and Sarah Fiskin, Genevieve (Brian) Stolp, Michelle and Caroline LaForest, Hyland Brown, and Isabelle, Olivia, Luc, and Dylan Bousquette. She also leaves one great-grandchild, Charles Stolp.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Regis Catholic Church, 3695 Lincoln Drive, Bloomfield Hills, on Saturday, August 11th at 10:30 AM. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10:00 AM.

Memorials may be made to the Capuchins, 1820 Mt. Elliott Street, Detroit, Michigan 48207 or Christ Child Society, 15751 Joy Road, Detroit, Michigan 48228.
