Obituary for Michael I. McDonald

Michael I. McDonald died at his home in Royal Oak October 6, 2016. He was 66 years old. Michael was born November 1, 1949 in Detroit to Joyce (nee Lacy) and John McDonald and was a lifelong resident of the Detroit Metropolitan area.

Michael was a certified public accountant for close to 40 years. He was the owner of McDonald & Company, P.C. and developed many decades long relationships with his clients and friends.

Michael loved everything about the sport of hockey and was a huge Detroit Red Wing’s fan. He coached his son’s youth hockey leagues and played in a local men’s hockey league until the age of 66. An alumnus of Western Michigan University and Walsh College, Michael was an active member of the Republican Party and a delegate for Oakland County. He was a practicing Catholic who earned the nickname “putt-putt” for being habitually late. Michael enjoyed music, reading, sailing and being on the water but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.

Michael is survived by his wife, Myanh and children, Erin (Jeff) Pawlowski, Megan McDonald, and John McDonald. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mitchell and Emily Pawlowski. Michael is preceded in death by his son, Miles McDonald.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Sunday, October 9th, 2-6pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Regis Catholic Church, 3695 Lincoln Drive, Bloomfield Hills, Monday, October 10th at 10:30am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10am.
