Obituary for Maud Jane Demorest

Maud Jane Demorest of Dearborn, Michigan, and formerly of Champaign, died peacefully on November 28, 2018. She was 91 years old. Maud was born in Duluth, MN on November 4, 1927 to Rev and Mrs. Upton (Marte) Dahle.

Maud graduated from Osseo High School (Minnesota) as Valedictorian in 1945. As a member of the class of 1949 she earned a BS degree in Medical Technology (Summa cum laude) graduating from Hamline University in 1950. She was the first technologist to be hired in the newly formed Radioisotope Unit at the Minneapolis VA hospital in 1951 and spent her career working as a medical technologist.

Maud married Raymond Phillip Demorest May 23, 1954. In their 58 years of marriage, she accompanied him to many different places during his air force career and enjoyed traveling with him to many places after their retirement. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2012.

In her free time she enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking and knitting. She was involved in a variety of activities including trivia and volunteering at many different places. She very proudly won an athletic award for bocce ball at the age of 90.

Maud enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was a great inspiration in living life to the fullest and will be greatly missed.

She was a devoted Methodist and loved singing in the choir. Maud was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign, IL.

Maud is survived by her children Mark (Pat) Demorest, Linda (Jon) Davis and Glen (Marcia) Demorest. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Leduc, Matthew (Sara) Demorest, Kristin (Michael) Hayes, Ryan (Bridget) Demorest, Kevin (Katie) Demorest, Randi (Tomas) Izdonavicius, Nick (Brooke Grosenick) Demorest, Leann Demorest and Emily Demorest; great-grandchildren, Mae, Harley, Cooper, Colby, Eva, Emery, Madeleine, Miles, Riley, Claire, Brooks, Isla; brother, Johannes (Arlene) Dahle; sister-in-law, Dora Rotondo and many nieces and nephews. Maud was preceded in death by her sister Andreen Sester.

A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Henry Ford Village Scholarship fund
