Obituary for Mary Pajot Ashcraft

Mary Pajot Ashcraft died of natural causes, on March 25, 2012. She was surrounded by her family and passed very peacefully at her daughter�s home in Beverly Hills, MI.

Born in Detroit on October 22, 1933, Mary Ashcraft was the only child of Clayton Pajot and Ruth Ostema. She later became the step-daughter of Jack Adderley of Bloomfield Hills and then Merrill Barber of Vero Beach, FL.

Mary attended St. Mary�s Academy in Monroe and later Michigan State University, where she met Thomas Ashcraft, whom she married in December 1955. The two had seven children before divorcing in 1979.

Mary was a lifelong artist, producing exceptional sketches, drawings and paintings from her early youth until just a year before her death. She was also an entrepreneur, owning and operating Mary Ashcraft�s Plantation Groves, a company that supplied high quality citrus fruit to schools, bands and other organizations in southeast Michigan for fundraising.

Mrs. Ashcraft is survived by one great grandchild, sixteen grandchildren and seven children, including John Ashcraft of Troy, his wife Rosemary and their children, Jennifer, Sarah and Emily, and grandson Sullivan McCann; Daniel Ashcraft of Franklin, his wife Sharon and their sons Danny and Joey; Thomas Ashcraft of Birmingham, Peter Ashcraft of McKinney, TX, his wife Peggy and their daughters Mallory and Claire; Molly Henneghan of Beverly Hills, her husband Michael and their children Erin, Charley, Danny and KK; Katie Hinnant of Franklin, her husband Robert and their daughters Annie, Caroline and Georgia; and Johanna Berger of Bloomfield Hills, her husband Dirck and their children Molly and Gus.

She was predeceased by both parents, both step-fathers and one grandchild, Gerrit Berger.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Wednesday 3-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Church, 630 Harmon Street, Birmingham, Thursday 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Birmingham.
