Obituary for Mary Jane Huddy

Mary Jane Huddy of Sterling Heights died October 10, 2011, at Georgian Bloomfield Nursing Home in Bloomfield Hills. She was 90 years old. Mary Jane was born August 11, 1921, in Detroit, to Ella (nee Schachschneider) and James Cavan.

Mary Jane grew up in Detroit and attended Longfellow Elementary and Durfee Middle School. In 1939, she graduated from Detroit Central High School. Mary Jane was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a devoted Christian throughout her life. On May 15, 1948, she married Robert F. Huddy, and together they created a loving home for their two children, Patti and Robert.

Professionally, Mary Jane worked at Chrysler and then the Chevrolet truck division in the GM building. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with 8 friends affectionately called the club, all of whom had known each other since kindergarten. Together, the club travelled to Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe. 4 of the 8 are still living. Mary Jane loved talking on the phone and staying in touch with family and friends became her greatest pleasure these last few years. A family historian through and through, Mary Jane possessed a great memory and was a wonderful storyteller.

Her children and grandchildren are joined by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, in giving thanks to God for her wisdom, love, laughter, and life among them. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Mary Jane is survived by her children, Patricia (Charles) Larsen and Robert (Deborah) Huddy and grandchildren, Angela (Richard) Troxel, Addison Huddy and Walker Huddy. She is also survived by her great-grandchild, Bronwyn Troxel, brother, Gerald (Betty) Cavan and sister-in-law, Lynn Cavan. Mary Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Huddy, grandchildren, Jana Larsen Peters and Adam Huddy, and brothers, Donald Cavan and James Cavan.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.), Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 12 Noon. Friends may visit beginning at 11am.

Memorials appreciated to Glaucoma Research Foundation, 251 Post Street, Suite 600, San Francisco, California 94108.
