Obituary for Mary "Dee" Dodenhoff

Mary Dolores “Dee” Dodenhoff died peacefully, surrounded by her family, December 10, 2016, at Arden Courts in Bingham Farms. She was 88 years old. Dee was born in Detroit, October 10, 1928, to Mary Ellen and James B. Tracey.

Born and raised in Detroit, Dee graduated from Northwestern High School in 1946. During her senior year, at the young age of 17, she started working at Michigan Bell Telephone Company. She spent the next 43 years with Michigan Bell before retiring as a District Manager in 1989.

Dee met a fellow Bell employee, Bill Dodenhoff, on a blind date, and they married June 16, 1951. They were married nearly 61 years at the time of Bill’s death in March 2012.

Throughout her life, Dee enjoyed knitting, needlework, reading, playing bridge, and collecting antiques. She had a keen interest in researching and preserving family history. In retirement, in addition to her other hobbies, she enjoyed volunteering for the American Cancer Society, spending time with her family at their cottage in Oscoda, Michigan, and spoiling her three grandsons. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Dee Dodenhoff was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her children, Sue Dodenhoff, Bill Dodenhoff, Barbara (Brad) Urlaub, and Bob (Kim) Dodenhoff, grandsons, Ben, Kevin, and Alex Urlaub, and sister, Bernice (the late Eston) Goodell. Dee was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Dodenhoff.
