Obituary for Mary Ann Carroll

Mary Ann Carroll, 95, of Bloomfield Hills, formerly of Royal Oak, died peacefully on January 24, 2020 following a long illness. Mary Ann was born February 21, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri to Mary (nee McCarthy) and Edward Buchanan, Sr.

She moved to Detroit as a young girl and following a year at The University of Michigan, worked as a bookkeeper during WWII at Fort Wayne. After the war ended, she worked as a bookkeeper at the Brink Insurance Agency where she met Samuel C. Carroll, Jr. whom she married on October 15, 1949.

A devoted homemaker and mother, Mary Ann enjoyed family camping trips to Michigan State Parks and, after retirement, in the western states. She took great pride in baking for her family and, to the delight of the whole neighborhood, keeping her cookie jar well filled.

Mary Ann is survived by her children Judy (Dale Moore), James (Margaret) and William (Karen) and her grandchildren Paul Moore (Katherine), Kelly Moore Quesnelle (Andrew), Michael Carroll (Carolyn), Elizabeth Carroll Leonard (Andrew), Kristin Carroll Minnema (Ryan) and Nicole Carroll Stutzman (Jacob). She is also survived by her 9 great-grandchildren: Anna, Rachel and Alexander Quesnelle, Samuel and Emily Carroll, Aiden Leonard, Logan and Evan Minnema and Chloe Stutzman.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Samuel C. Carroll, Jr. and her two brothers Edward B. Buchanan, Jr. and Robert S. Buchanan.

A faithful life-long Catholic, Mary Ann will be celebrated during a Memorial Mass at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 4580 N Adams Rd, in Troy, Thursday, September 17th at 11am. Family and friends may begin visiting the church at 10:30am. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
