Obituary for Mark R. Stamat

Mark R. Stamat died peacefully at home on June 28, 2019 with family at his side. He left this earth on what would have been his 69th birthday. He was born June 28, 1950 in Detroit to parents Janice M. Thurau and Robert M. Stamat.

Mark spent his early childhood in California before coming back to Michigan. He loved the warm weather, and always dreamed of moving to the western part of the United States. However, he valued his family and friends and stayed in Clawson where he resided almost 50 years.

Mark began his career at Reichhold Chemical in Ferndale. He started at an entry level position and worked his way up into a management role prior to the plant closing. During a career transition he went back to school to learn how to drive semi-trailer trucks. He took a job with Sterling Oil and Chemical where he would transport oil tankers within the US and Canada. Ultimately, he transitioned into the United States Postal System, where he we worked for 15 years. Upon his retirement, he was the Supervisor of Vehicle Maintenance at the Royal Oak branch. He worked with many wonderful people in his lifetime and enjoyed his leadership roles.

Mark loved cars, especially Corvettes. He looked forward to the Woodward Dream Cruise every year. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races. He would tinker in the garage where he was so meticulous and organized. His garage felt like another room in the home with all the comforts including heat, a refrigerator and TV.

Mark also loved landscaping and flowers. The yard would always be freshly trimmed. The array of flowers and shrubs were designed with perfection to coordinate each color and size. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved dog, Oreo, who was always by his side and meant the world to him.

Mark is survived by his wife Cindy and daughters Heather (Matt Schramski) Stamat and Jennifer (Anthony) Mannino. He will be missed by his cherished grandchildren, Anthony, Mia, Gabrielle, Joseph, and Louie. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara (Don) Raines and Rosemary (Steve) Beauchamp, mother-in-law Betty Groh, and brothers-in-law Terry (Robin) Groh and Ken (Dawn) Groh. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father Donald Jones, his sister Alice Okerblom, his niece Cheyenne Okerblom, his nephew Mark Raines and former wife Millie Stamat.

A Funeral Service will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road, Clawson, Wednesday, July 3, 11am. Friends may visit Tuesday, July 2, 3-8pm. Burial will take place in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.

Memorials appreciated to Karmanos Cancer Institute, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or The Michigan Humane Society.
