Obituary for Marjorie Whitlock Ellis

Marjorie Whitlock Ellis of Birmingham died April 27, 2016. She was 98 years old. Marjorie was born December 29, 1917 in Lansing, Michigan to Jennie May (nee Stauffer) and Lawrence A. Whitlock.

Marjorie attended MSU for 2 years where she played tennis and archery. She was very artistic and created beautiful paintings and illustrations. She was a talented seamstress, sewing everything from blouses & dresses to curtains. She loved to crochet afghans and was a gifted photographer and gardener. Marjorie enjoyed going to Peabody’s Restaurant and in fact worked for Jim Peabody when Peabody’s was a grocery store. She also worked for many years at Stewart Fabrics in Birmingham.

Marjorie was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Birmingham and was a member of Nomads Travel Group where she logged over 50,000 miles in the air. She sold cookies for a nickle and loved the annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

Marjorie is survived by her sons, Tom (Connie) Ellis and Bill Ellis, grandchildren, Chad and Brooke and her nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Ellis and son, Bob Ellis.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Monday, May 2nd, 4-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1669 W. Maple Road, Birmingham, Tuesday, May 3rd at 10am. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
