He resumed an undergraduate degree at UM, and then attended UM Medical School, graduating in 1952. Dr. Ferszt completed a residency in General Surgery at Mt. He also worked as a Medical Director for General Motors, beginning at the Spring and Bumper Plant in Livonia, then at Chevrolet Willow Run Assembly Plant in Ypsilanti, then at the former Detroit Diesel Allision Division, and in 1984 became a full time Medical Director at the GM Detroit Hamtramck Assembly Plant. He was a lifelong member of the American College of Surgeons, the University of Michigan Alumni Association, as well as the Birmingham Senior Men’s Club, and St. Owen parish in Bloomfield Hills.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and by his sister Mary Ferszt, and his brother John Ferszt. He is survived by his wife Genie, and by his three children and five grandchildren: Paul F. Dr. Ferszt was an avid reader and traveler; when he and his wife were in their retirement years, they loved planning and going on trips to Europe, Asia, and Africa. He also loved sailing on Union Lake, gardening and yard work, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather; he will be remembered as an excellent and generous provider, and as a talented and hard-working medical doctor.
