Obituary for Marion B. Smith

Marion B. Smith of Troy, died peacefully, February 28, 2012, at HarborChase in Auburn Hills. She was 76 years old. Marion was born May 20, 1935, in Huntington, West Virginia, to Catherine (nee Sutherland) and Otto Becker.

A champion list maker, Marion would host many family gatherings and holiday meals where she would stand in the kitchen checking off her list, making sure the food was put in the oven at precisely the right time, resulting in many a fabulous meal shared by family. Marion enjoyed oil painting, Neil Diamond music, traveling, golf, and skiing but especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Marion was a Stephen Minister at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and Birmingham Community House Volunteer President for which she received the 2005-2006 Volunteer of the Year Award.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Marion was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Marion is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Smith, and children, Cyndi (Patrick) Brady, Jim Johnson, and Robb Smith. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sean Brady and Tiffany Johnson and siblings, Carol (Elden) Avery, Otto (Diane) Becker, Ingrid (Rick) Haughton, and Rudy (Carolyn) Becker.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Sunday 3-8pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1800 W. Maple Road, Birmingham, Monday 11am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10am. Interment in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
