Obituary for Margaret Rose Kolinski

Margaret Rose Kolinski died peacefully at her home in Birmingham June 8, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was 92 years old. Mrs. Kolinski was born July 17, 1919, in Louisville, Kentucky to Nanny Elizabeth (nee Bohannon) and Marcus Bernard Head.

On May 25, 1940, Marge married the love of her life, Joseph Kolinski, at Holy Redeemer Church in Southwest Detroit. Originally members of Gesu Parish, the Kolinski family joined Christ the King in 1967. Together, Joe and Marge raised 13 children and eventually settled in Birmingham, where Mrs. Kolinski has been a faithful parishioner of Holy Name Church for the past 25 years.

A talented seamstress throughout her life, Mrs. Kolinski even sewed her own wedding dress. She was an avid bridge player and loved watching Wheel of Fortune. A dedicated volunteer, Mrs. Kolinski was involved with Birmingham Area Seniors Coordinating Council and Center (BASCC) as well as Fiber Arts Ministry through Holy Name. She also crocheted baby blankets and made costumes for various community theatres.

In the end, however, Mrs. Kolinskis life was shaped most by her vocation as a wife and mother. She raised thirteen children with dignity and grace, and each of her 30 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren meant the world to her. A woman of great devotion and generosity, Margaret Kolinski will be remembered best for her unconditional love for family and friends and her abiding faith in the goodness of God. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her children, Ralph (Betty), Betty (Jeff) Walter, Peggy (Gary) Wescott, Mary (John) Moritz, Jerry (Annie), Jack (Jane), Dottie (The Hon. David) Gubow, Joe (Alison), Jim (Kathy), Patty (Dr. Bill) Ward, Bob (fiance Dr. Gina DAmbrosio), and Jeanne (Dr. Glenn) DeLong, 30 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Dodie (Jack) Morin. Mrs. Kolinski is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her son, Michael, 3 siblings, and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. (between 14-15 Mile Rds.), Monday 3-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon, Birmingham, Tuesday 11am.

Burial will take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
