Margaret “Peggy” Carroll (née Geraghty) was born on December 16, 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the fourth child of Timothy and Margaret Geraghty.
Peggy died peacefully of natural causes on June 26, 2020, with her husband of 63 years, John “Jack” Carroll, by her side and surrounded by her five daughters, Eileen Hunt (Brian), Meg Alli (John), Nora Hamill (Schuyler), Barbara Hunt (Patrick) and Beth Cummins (Timothy).
Accentuated by her spunk and determination, Peggy’s natural Irish beauty was evident from her earliest days. The beloved baby sister of the Geraghty family, Peggy cherished her siblings throughout her life and is preceded in death by her sisters Kay McElwain (James) and Mary Alice Geraghty and is survived by her brothers Edward Geraghty (the late Corinne) and Thomas Geraghty (Suzanne), both of Kettering, Ohio.
Smitten by Peggy from the first time he saw her at a Xavier University dance in 1954, Jack shared a lifetime commitment to Peggy and partnered with her in raising their five daughters. They relished the support of warm friends and the strong faith communities of St. Bede and St. Regis parishes. Laughing with friends after a game of tennis or a round of golf was one of Peggy’s favorite pastimes. Summers spent with her family on the shores of Lake Huron were especially memorable.
In her later years, Peggy’s greatest joy was spending time with her ten grandchildren (Matthew Hunt (Christine), Lauren Hunt Hoiland (Scott), Caitlin Alli, Grace Alli, Schuyler Hamill, Jr., Patrick Hamill, Marian Hunt, Daniel Hunt, Katie Cummins, and Jack Cummins) and enjoying the blessings of three great-grandchildren (Clara Hunt, Lillian Hunt, and Marie Hoiland). Peggy was deeply loved and her absence will be keenly felt by her friends and extended family, including over twenty-three nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Peggy’s life will be shared at St. Regis Catholic Church in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome but facemasks and social distancing will be required.
In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully welcomes donations to Angels’ Place, 29299 Franklin Road, Southfield, Michigan 48034, or angelsplace.com
