Obituary for Margaret Loney Herman

Margaret Loney Herman of Bloomfield Hills died peacefully October 25, 2012, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac. She was 68 years old. Maggie was born September 27, 1944, in Detroit, the fourth of Marjorie (nee Myers) and Donald Loney�s five children.

Maggie grew up in Berkley and graduated from Berkley High School in 1962. She went on to receive her Bachelor�s in Art Education from Western Michigan University in 1966. From 1968 to 1973 she pursued graduate studies in Education at Wayne State University. Maggie and Laurence �Laurie� T. Herman went on their first date February 14, 1970, and married one year later on February 13, 1971. They settled in Bloomfield Hills, where they raised their three children.

Maggie taught Elementary School Art in the Warren Consolidated School district from 1966 until 1974. She later taught for 19 years at the West Maple Nursery School in Birmingham, Michigan. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Gamma Xi Chapter at Western Michigan University. She also belonged to the Junior League of Birmingham and Forest Lake Country Club.

Dedicated to the betterment of education throughout her life, Maggie participated in numerous school organizations, including Way School PTO, Lahser High School PTO, and the Brother Rice High School Mothers Club and Football Booster Club. She also served as Decorations Chairperson for Brother Rice�s annual auction fundraiser.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Maggie Herman was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by many.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Laurence, and her children, Dana (Paul Grant) of Chicago, IL, Lindsay (Ryan) Davis of Raleigh, NC, and LT Herman of Houston, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gunnar Grant and Vanessa and Wade Davis, and her siblings, Joyce (Dan) Oldham, John (Mary) Loney, and Thomas Loney. Maggie is preceded in death by her brother, Donald Loney.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at Forest Lake Country Club, 1401 Club Drive, Bloomfield Hills, Saturday, November 10, 1-3pm.
