Obituary for Margaret Ann Schloss

Margaret Ann Schloss died peacefully September 4, 2012, at her home in Royal Oak, after receiving her final sacraments. She was 87 years old. Margaret was born November 25, 1924, on her family farm in Holly, Michigan, to Bernice (nee Fagan) and Harold Sims. She graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids.

Margaret majored in home economics with a minor in psychology at Michigan State University and was an active lifetime member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

Her professional life was in the home, using all the acquired skills she obtained on the family farm in Holly and carried with her to Port Huron, Grand Rapids, Greenwater, Kalamazoo and Royal Oak. Margaret also worked at the Shrine of the Little Flower and the local hospital to help those in need.

Peggy most enjoyed her beautiful garden, pool, patio and gazebo, where family and friends gathered for parties for over 50 years. She also enjoyed staying informed on the daily financial markets which she learned from her parents who owned and operated the family oil business.

Margaret was always involved in the activities of her children, and was proud of their Catholic education, college, and professional schooling. She enjoyed being a part of their learning, inside and out of the classroom. Margaret was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always honored the birthdates of her family by a prompt card with some political inside, as she learned from her mothers tradition.

Margaret was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Margaret is survived by her son, Larry (Trudee) Schloss, daughter, Mary Margaret (Leonard Paul) Johnson and grandchildren, Lawrence John (Dima) Schloss MD, Meredith (Matthew) Maczka, and Zoe Margaret (Justin Shull) Diedrichs. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Charles, Benjamin and William Maczka, Makayla and Noah Shull, and Naia Barbara Schloss. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Leo James Schloss and daughter, Kathleen Diedrichs.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Sunday 3-8pm with a Scripture Service at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at National Shrine of the Little Flower, Woodward and 12 Mile Road, Royal Oak, Monday 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am. Interment in Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley.

Memorials appreciated to the National Shrine of the Little Flower, 2123 Roseland, Royal Oak, Michigan 48073.
