Obituary for Maj. George E. Halpin, Jr.

Major George E. Halpin, Jr., a resident of Clawson for 50 years, died October 5, 2011, at Woodward Hills Nursing Center in Bloomfield Hills. He was 82 years old. George was born April 17, 1929, in Detroit, to Victoria (nee Buc) and George E. Halpin. A native Detroiter, he was a graduate of Birmingham High School. George served as a Major in the United States Army for over 20 years until his retirement in 1967. After his retirement he worked at Troy Oaks Printing, was a Post Commander at Birmingham/Bloomfield VFW Post 2254, and was on the Oakland County Council for the VFW. He was a former Scout Master in Clawson and a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church for 50 years.

George is survived by his wife, Jill Halpin, sons, George (Theresa) Halpin, Daniel Halpin, and Donald (Lisa) Halpin, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Diana (Bud) Fix, Patricia (Bill) Van Dike, Richard Halpin, and Michael (Jackie) Halpin and step-sons, Trevor Gray, Ian (Tanja) Gray, and Malcolm Gray. George is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Halpin and brother, Donald Halpin.

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Friday 2-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Guardian Angels Church, 581 E. Fourteen Mile Road, Clawson, Saturday 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am. Interment in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
