Obituary for M. Scott Mitchell

Michael Scott Mitchell, 76, peacefully went to be with the Lord, April 14, at his home with his wife and four boys at his side.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Peggy (Taylor) Mitchell; his sons, Scott (Jennifer), Tom (Jill), Bob, and Pete (Tamara) Mitchell and his grand children; Katelyn, Meghan, Allison, Julia, Skyler, Taylor, Sophia, Shepard, Callen, Olivia, Lilah. Scott was pre-deceased by his father Selim, mother Mary Jayne, brother Peter and grandson Spencer.

Born and raised in Manchester, CT, working the ice blocks on Block Island, Scott was a great athlete and hard worker providing for his family in the world of insurance/employee benefits. His courtship with his lovely bride began at Oak Hill School for the Blind and continued to blossom for 52 years building a foundation of family that took them from Connecticut to Syracuse, to Virginia Beach finally landing in Bloomfield Hills. Scott retired after spending a very successful career as National Account Executive at Connecticut General/CIGNA. The unconditional love and devotion he shared with his beloved Peggy was a pillar in the household which was soaked in by their sons.

The “Biffer”, as he was affectionately known by his boys and his son’s friends, loved coaching his boys in various sports across many fields. His passion for coaching his boys was only surpassed by watching them excel in their various endeavors due to his guidance, always sporting his head phones. He loved the game of golf, playing with his boys in tournaments and at his cottage at Canadian Lakes.

Scott battled Multiple Sclerosis for 44 years. Scott and his family are great advocates for the cause and participate in functions to raise awareness and money for the cure for M.S. He was named National MS Father of the Year in 1997. His sons like to say that not only did he battle M.S., but he kicked its ass!!!

Visitation for Scott will be on Sunday, April 17 from 2:00-8:00 at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home at 1368 N. Crooks Road, Clawson, (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) with Funeral Mass at Church of St. Owen Church on 6869 Franklin Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301, Monday 11:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to send donations to the North Florida Multiple Sclerosis Society of Jacksonville at 8940 Western Way, Suite 16, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
